Garton

Garton's original reference material is a typewritten letter from the Garton Brewery, Bristol, dated 1 November 1894. It found its way into Studio Makgill's hands through a project several years ago. We knew it would one day be the starting point of a new typeface.
As designers, we have long appreciated how a typewriter typeface can strongly influence a design. But it's not a genre that has been that too widely explored. The Garton family brings a unique historical and elegant twist to an otherwise mechanical form. The typeface is evenly proportioned with only a subtle contrast in the strokes – giving the classic typewriter qualities a more contemporary feel.
Garton is available in three weights — Light, Regular and Bold — with corresponding italics. It is open to licensing in both Standard (‘STD’) and Professional (‘PRO’) versions. The latter contains numerous OpenType features and stylistic alternates.
